Welcome to Lil Signing Hands!
We are so excited to share with you programs that teach children and youth American Sign Language vocabulary! Did you know that sign language vocabulary offers many benefits to babies, toddlers and children of all abilities? Signing allows infants to communicate before they can talk. Research* shows that infants and toddlers who sign: are less frustrated; learn to talk sooner; have larger vocabularies than non-signers and scored higher on IQ tests at age 8.
Signing is a powerful learning tool. Once a child begins to talk, signing continues to offer important educational benefits. When signs and words are used together, auditory learners hear the word, visual learners see the sign and kinesthetic learners can use their hands to make the sign. In other words, signing creates the perfect storm that can trigger a surge in language learning and cognitive development. Research* shows that preschool and elementary children who use signs and finger spelling expand their vocabularies more quickly; develop more positive attitudes toward reading and learn letters, numbers, and sight words more easily.
Signing helps with special needs. Children who have autism, Down syndrome, speech challenges, or language delays often use signs as a primary means of communication or to simply clarify their speech. Signing opens the door to meaningful social interactions with parents, teachers, and peers.
Signing is a bridge to the Deaf Community. ASL is a beautiful and expressive language. Knowing a few signs can give a child the confidence to engage and interact with a deaf child rather than both children feeling awkward and helpless. Lil Signing Hands programs can provide a foundation for learning ASL as a second language for both hearing and Deaf children.
Our baby and toddler classes are carefully planned and are designed to not only develop your child’s sign language vocabulary but help develop their social, emotional, fine and gross motor skills too! We focus on providing parents and caregivers a safe, fun, and unique play environment where you can spend quality time playing with and teaching your child sign language. Courses for school aged children include learning in a fun environment with plenty of hands on activities. Our customized programs for tweens involves play based learning techniques (games, role playing, etc.) In addition, we proudly offer presentations to various community groups as well as our Read and Sign program to local Libraries.

Lil Signing Hands is licensed and certified to teach Preschool & Early Education Classes as well as Youth & Adult Sign Classes. Our Instructors have over twenty years experience working with children, youth and developing youth leadership programs. Together they bring a wealth of knowledge with more than fifteen years of formal ASL education and communication experience combined. Our founder, Kimberly Churchill, is the mother of a Deaf child who uses ASL. She created LSH to make possible the opportunity for hearing children to communicate, even if through a few signs, with her son should they ever meet. Kimberly also completed ASL Levels 101-301 through the local association for the Deaf. Lil Signing Hands is the first choice for you and your child to play, sing and sign!
